Match Your Values to the Work You Want to Do
Knowing and clarifying your values will help you prepare for your job search and future work. When you can talk about your values, you can connect with the values of a company you want to work with, and then show the value you bring to the company. In fact, showing your value to a company you work for can also help you keep your job during difficult times.
It is important to be clear about your values
Values can be based on things you own, characteristics, and ways of working that are important to you. If you feel satisfied with your life, you can look at how you spend your time and money to see what is important to you. But if you are less satisfied with your life and work, think about what motivated you to do what you do, and have what you have. It is easy to be influenced by family, beliefs, culture and media to spend your time and money in ways that are not fulfilling. Recognizing influences, choosing which beliefs still work for you, and which ones are no longer useful will help you make meaningful career choices. Life values are what you value in your life generally and work values are the way you like to work.
Life values are the overreaching values that unconsciously direct your decisions and actions. If you are clear on your values, you will make decisions about how to spend your time and money much quicker and easier. Your values drive your goals whether you are conscious of them are not. You will be prepared for job opportunities as they show up if you are clear on your strengths, skills, values, and interests. Your life values will motivate you to recognize and develop your strengths and skills and make time for your interests.
Work values drive the way you want to work and the satisfaction you get from your work. Work values often overlap with life values, but work values are more focused on where, how, and why you want to work at a particular job or company.

There are universal values that all employers are looking for in employees; like a healthy lifestyle. When you have a smile on your face and that energetic glow on your cheeks that shows you are able and willing to work, an employer is more likely to trust and respect you. Keep in mind, that a business is there to make money and keep itself vibrant to provide the product or service it was built for. If you can match your values to the values of the company, you will find more success for you and the company. If they make money, you get paid.
