You may have been laid off, you may be hoping to go back to your place of business, or you may know that the career you have worked so hard to establish is waning or will soon be obsolete. Whatever your situation, you know that we are going through a major change in the way we work. In fact we have been making this shift for years, it is just happening more quickly now. It may seem sad. It may seem unfair. There are always some people who have more opportunities than others, but chances are you have more options than you realize.
Some things have changed, and some things have not. For years we have known that our career path will not be a straight upward path like a career ladder. In fact, for many it never was. I compare our careers to a Career Hopscotch, where we put different emphasis on family, work, and education at different times in our lives.
When you find the need to change your job or career direction, it is important to ask yourself, “What are you willing to do to get what you want?” After working through these assignments, and examining your career needs and skills, you will be prepared to make decisions about what you want, and you can evaluate the opportunities available to you.
It is important to realize that you are there to help the employer stay in business whether they a for profit or a nonprofit. The alternative is to start your own business and take the risk yourself. You may want to become an entrepreneur even part time, but you will probably still need to be in the job market, at least to start, so use an entrepreneurial mindset to connect with employers and get the job.
There are so many ways to approach the job market, some more obvious than others. Here are two methods we will look at.
Jobs Posted on Job Search Sites
While looking at job search sites you will be looking for the obvious; where everyone else is looking. There is a lot of competition, so you will need to put in the effort to look sharp, look hard, and put in the work. Let’s start by perusing job search websites.

Review Companies that are hiring if needed
The types of jobs that are prevalent on job search sites will depend on the world economy, environmental factors, and technological advances. You will see themes in the types of jobs that are prevalent at any given time. Jobs in the fields of health and technology have been prevalent for some time and the demand continues to increase.
The Hidden Job Market
The hidden job market is really not so hidden, but it may not be where you are looking. The hidden job market is in your reputation, your relationships, and your ability to show:
